El Despertar de la Serpiente was a show in the form of a parade created by Cirque du Soleil as a central performance in the 2008 International Expo 2008 in Zaragoza Spain. The “Expo Agua” sought to bring awareness to the world’s water sustainability which fell in line with Cirque du Soleil’s founder Guy LaLiberté’s own One Drop Foundation’s mandate.
In countless cultures around the world, the serpent has symbolic association with water and so we based this parade around The Awakening of the Serpent to bring back the awareness of just how precious water is to human kind.
