LAB OF MISFITS is the far out band of scientific provocateurs that surround Beau Lotto and his quest to open the hearts and minds of people and their ideas of perception, truth and wonder. Mysteries of Awe is a project combining Lab of Misfits and Cirque du Soleil in a ground breaking experiment attempting to measure the potential lasting effects of experiencing Awe and Wonder. What better place to house such an experiment than that of the awe inspiring masterpiece “O” by Cirque du Soleil. Directed by Franco Dragone in 1998, it still stands strong today as THE cirque show you cannot miss when in Las Vegas. From the moment the “curtain goes up” we are transported to another world and immersed in a dreamscape of poetry, music and unbelievable performances. Lab of Misfits was given permission to use EEG monitors to measure the brainwaves of spectators and see what parts of the show inspired the most awe and wonder. With my extensive experience both on and off stage at Cirque, I was brought in to advise, choreograph and help stage manage the event which took place over 7 days. Definitely stands out as one of the most unique and intersectional projects I’ve ever worked on and one of the only that utilized both my University education in Anthropology and my career as a performer in Cirque du Soleil.
